About Selasih
A practice rooted in care, clarity, and craft
Selasih was founded to give small business owners in Malaysia access to the kind of thoughtful, honest advisory that used to be available only to larger organisations.

How Selasih began
Selasih grew out of a simple observation: many of the small business owners around George Town were working hard and doing things right, but lacked a clear picture of their finances or a straightforward plan for what to do next. They were not failing — they were just navigating alone, without a calm voice alongside them.
The practice was established on Jalan Burma to serve these owners. Not with complicated reports or jargon-heavy frameworks, but with the kind of considered, one-to-one advice that helps someone see their own business more clearly and make better decisions at their own pace.
The name Selasih — the Malay word for basil — reflects the philosophy behind the practice: a modest, aromatic herb that tends quietly and consistently, and rewards patience. That is the standard we hold ourselves to with every engagement.
Our Mission
What we are here to do
Our mission is to help small business owners in Malaysia feel genuinely understood and competently guided. Not pushed toward fast answers or fashionable strategies, but helped to understand their own situation and respond to it wisely.
We work with three kinds of engagements — a single planning session, a five-week review, and a six-month partnership — each designed for a different stage of business life. We do not try to be all things to everyone. We focus on doing this work carefully and doing it well.
Patient: We work at the pace that suits your business, not ours.
Honest: We tell you what we see, including the parts that are uncomfortable.
Practical: Our advice is designed for real businesses run by real people, not theoretical ones.

How We Work
Our standards and approach
Every engagement follows the same careful process. These are the commitments we bring to each client relationship.
Full confidentiality
Everything you share with us — figures, concerns, plans — stays within the engagement. We maintain strict professional discretion as a matter of course.
Written deliverables
Every engagement ends with something documented. You leave with a written record of priorities, findings, or recommendations — not just a conversation to remember.
Open, two-way dialogue
We do not lecture. Sessions are structured around conversation — your questions, concerns, and observations shape what we look at and what we conclude.
Reliable follow-through
We keep our commitments. If we say we will send something by Tuesday, it will arrive by Tuesday. Reliability is a basic professional standard, and we hold ourselves to it.
Evidence-based assessment
Our conclusions come from what we actually see in your business — not from assumptions or generic templates. We ask for records and data because they tell the real story.
Respectful engagement
Running a small business is hard, personal work. We approach every conversation with respect for that effort, whatever stage the business is at.
Our Expertise
Business consulting for small enterprises in Penang and across Malaysia
Small businesses in Malaysia face a distinctive set of pressures — fluctuating customer demand, thin margins, the challenge of managing suppliers and staff simultaneously, and the ever-present question of what to do next with limited time and capital. Selasih was built to address these realities directly.
Our work spans financial assessment, operational review, and priority-setting. We help owners understand where their money is going, which parts of the business are generating real value, and which habits or structures may be quietly working against them. We do this in plain language, without unnecessary complexity.
George Town's business community is diverse — food and beverage, retail, professional services, small manufacturing — and we have worked across many of these sectors. We understand the rhythms of trading in Malaysia: the significance of festive seasons, the pressures of rental costs in established areas, the particular dynamics of family-owned enterprises.
Whether an owner needs a single focused session or an ongoing advisory relationship across several months, Selasih brings the same attentive, careful approach. We measure success not by how much we say in a session, but by how much clarity an owner carries away from it.
